The Yule Blog

So that’s my lot for 2018. You’ve probably noticed that I haven’t written much new stuff lately and, to be honest, I’ve been thinking about knocking this blog on the head because I’m just not feeling it anymore. After doing it for 12 years I don’t think I have anything interesting left to say or the urge to say it. But who knows, the muse might strike again over the holiday. We’ll see.

In the meantime I hope you and yours have a wonderful Christmas. I’m going to be staying home with the family which is about the nicest way of spending time I can think of.

A Jolly Holiday

I’m off to Maine for a week with the family so the lights will be out here until next Monday. I’m going to try and stay off the internet as much as possible so you won’t be seeing me on that Twitter either. That’s the plan anyway, let’s see how long that lasts.

Be good. See you next week. Here’s a great one-hit wonder from 1974.

I was surprised to discover that The First Class were English. I didn’t think it was possible for us to sound this sunny. Bonus trivia: the song was written in East Sheen.

Giving Thanks

It’s Thanksgiving here tomorrow so I’ll be gone the rest of the week. This is my favourite American holiday because it revolves around eating and drinking but you don’t have to buy presents for the kids. It’s like Christmas for adults!

While this year has been terrible on so many levels I am grateful to my wife and kids for filling my heart with love and giving me something to smile about every day.

Happy Thanksgiving to one and all.

Up The Workers

It’s Labor Day here today, the holiday when America celebrates the crushing of working people by unfettered capitalism. Or something like that.

But as bad as it was, as horrifically terrible as it was, the spill could have been much, much worse. For example, had the spill occurred in April 2011 rather than April 2010, a change in ocean currents would have carried the oil to the Florida Keys within a week and East Coast girls would be making politically charged statement jewelry out Cheap Oakleys of their oil blob souvenirs as we speak.
