A great version. And amazing false eyelashes! I think this song was so popular at the time because it told an interesting story and the arrangement was simple and clean. I saw the film adaptation, but the less said about that the better. There are some awful clips of her on YouTube in gaudy bossa nova outfits singing more up-tempo songs, but this is a classic. Made my weekend!

Looking back, I remember that I didn’t enjoy this song at the time – ’twasn’t British, you see – but I’ve come to appreciate and enjoy it now.
